The 10th World Kungfu Championships (WKFC) took place in Emeishan, China, from October 14 to 20, 2025, bringing together 5,092 participants from 54 countries and regions. Organized biennially by the International Wushu Federation (IWUF), the WKFC is the world’s largest and most influential kungfu event.
This year, the U.S. delegation was the largest international team, comprising 322 athletes, coaches, officials, and observers. Among them, 162 athletes represented the United States of America Wushu-Kungfu Federation (USAWKF) in competition with exceptional focus, strength, and dedication.
To ensure smooth coordination for such a large delegation, the USAWKF leadership divided the athletes into eight regional teams, each led by an experienced coach. This breakdown into smaller teams enabled the coaches to provide more attentive support to each athlete in daily management, warm-ups, and competition logistics. Our devoted coaches worked tirelessly to keep the team organized and supported throughout the entire event. Their dedication was truly remarkable and commendable.
On the eve of the tournament, USAWKF President Mr. Anthony Goh met with the entire delegation, encouraging everyone to compete to the best of their abilities, pursue excellence, uphold team spirit, and embrace the experience with pride. The meeting was filled with laughter and cheerful conversations, leaving the team inspired for the competition days ahead.
The first competition day featured hand form events. Team USA athletes entered the arena with confidence and energy — every stance and strike reflected their passion and determination. Off the floor, teammates cheered each other on, and celebrated every success together, embodying the unity and camaraderie of a true team.
By the second day, as both hand form and weapon events commenced, the schedule intensified. Yet, the team’s efficiency, communication, and cohesion only grew stronger. Team USA reminded each other of upcoming events, exchanged advice, and worked together to solve challenges as they arose. One athlete, Mohammad Ullah, was injured but deeply moved by the support he received from the team. “The tears I’m crying now aren’t from the pain,” he said, “but from everyone’s humanity showing in full force to help me literally get back on my feet.”
The final day showcased breathtaking weapon routines. Team USA athletes continued to excel across multiple categories. Two U.S. athletes, Frederick Li and Preston Land, were also featured at the Golden Summit Kungfu Gala Show. Li, Team USA’s first gold medalist of the event, impressed the audience with his powerful Mantis Fist routine, while Land captivated spectators with his explosive broadsword performance.
The championships concluded on a high note, with IWUF Vice President and USAWKF President Anthony Goh delivering the closing remarks on behalf of the International Wushu Federation. The celebration continued at the closing party, where athletes and coaches shared joy, friendship, and pride in their achievements.
Over the course of three competition days (October 17–19), Team USA delivered outstanding results, earning approximately 45 first prizes, 57 second prizes, and 123 third prizes.
Throughout the event, Team USA embodied the USAWKF’s core values of unity, respect, enthusiasm, and excellence, leaving an inspiring mark on the global kungfu community. The USAWKF looks forward to welcoming even more talented athletes to represent the United States on the world stage at the next World Kungfu Championships.
